How to inspect castings defects
In order to ensure the quality of castings, different inspection methods should be adopted according to different uses and requirements of castings, and the defects that are not permitted are checked out in time. The following methods are commonly used in defect inspection.
(a) The appearance inspection of surface roughness, should be in the appropriate light conditions under visual-hand-touch sample block, by feeling the surface condition identification, with the use of measuring tools to obtain the casting size data, using statistical methods to determine the casting precision defect rate.
(b) Chemical analysis of all castings, chemical constituents are very important, so in most cases, the chemical composition is the acceptance indicator. The chemical compositions also indirectly determine the mechanical properties and defects of the castings.
(3) Mechanical properties Testing hardness test is the earliest used to inspect the casting defects, the United States in the beginning of this century, some people in the sand blasting section individually inspected the casting cylinder head, such as hardness exceeding a certain value, the inevitable cracks should be scrapped. This method is simple to line.
(iv) Metallographic Examination (metallographic examination) to enlarge 50~2000 times and observe polished metal surfaces with optical microscope. The specimen was examined under the condition of non-corrosive inclusions (using the GB10561-89 ratings of various functions, such as Ming, white field and polarizing, interference and microhardness), and examined the microstructure and grain size after erosion. This method is widely used to inspect microscopic defects, and is often used to study microscopic characteristics of macroscopic defects.
(v) nondestructive testing (nondestructive testing), Penetrant flaw Detection (ISO3452), magnetic particle flaw detection, eddy current flaw detection, etc., can only be used in the casting surface or surface part of the defect inspection, casting deep defects in the inspection, must use X-ray transmission (ISO5579), fault photography and ultrasonic flaw detection method. Nondestructive testing has developed rapidly in recent years, as data processing and hardware tend to be portable, greatly improving the reliability and flexibility of inspections.
